Family house in Bivange

Located in the quiet landscape of Bivange, Luxembourg, this single-family residence is a refined exploration of minimalist geometry and material contrast. The architecture is defined by its crisp, white-washed volumes and a striking asymmetrical gabled roof clad in standing-seam zinc, which lends a sharp, contemporary edge to the traditional suburban silhouette. The street-facing facade is an exercise in private-public balance. A heavy, horizontal plinth of warm vertical timber slats defines the ground floor, seamlessly integrating the garage and main entrance while providing a rich, tactile warmth against the austere white render above. This solid base is punctuated by deeply recessed apertures on the first floor, protected by vertical louvers that manage solar gain and privacy without sacrificing the building’s clean lines. In contrast, the garden elevation opens entirely to the landscape through expansive glass curtain walls and cantilevered volumes. Deeply carved terraces and a sheltered balcony—finished with wood-toned soffits—create "outdoor rooms" that extend the interior living space. This play of voids and solids ensures that the house remains an introverted sanctuary from the street while becoming a light-filled, transparent pavilion at its private core
